Polaroid® Transfers

Polaroid transfers evolved from an "accident" in the Polaroid labs when a researcher inadvertently left an exposed negative from a peel-apart film upside down on a countertop. When the negative was removed, it transferred the positive image onto the countertop. A new "alternative process" was born!

The Process

Using a device known as a slide printer, an image is projected onto the Polaroid film. The film is pulled through the rollers, separated before the film can develop, and the negative is applied to a piece of wet watercolor paper with a brayer. The image can then be manipulated further. I use colored pencils to enhance the image.
